Diana Gray
My name is Diana Gray and I am a recent Masters of Health Science Graduate specializing in Community Health. Having completed my undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), I had the opportunity to work in the neurophysiology lab for my 4th year research practicum. Working in the neurophysiology lab had inspired me to pursue a career in research, which led me to the completion of my Masters degree with Dr. Murphy in August 2011. My field of work focused on the development of instruments to assess physical and physiological risk factors for neck pain. We did this by conducting a neurophysiological study looking at neural markers of sensorimotor integration using Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SEPs) and by developing an original questionnaire to measure certain aspects of laptop use. Overall, the opportunities that one gains by conducting their research at UOIT are exceptional. The Faculty of Health Sciences is a close knit community and you are able to connect with members very easily to develop working relationships. Members of this Faculty are very knowledgeable with the research process and support you where they can. In addition, class sizes are small which allows you to have the individual support that one needs during your degree completion. In conclusion, completing my Masters degree in the UOIT neurophysiology lab has made for a rewarding experience that has not only allowed me to develop long lasting friendships and working relationships but has also prepared me for my future career.
