Ian Barker
My name is Ian Barker and I am in the last stages of completing my Masters of Health Science. I have recently been appointed the position of Kinesiology Lab Specialist here at UOIT and am very excited to be a part of the Kinesiology program as it continues to grow. My research has investigated the neurophysiological changes that occur in chronic/recurrent neck pain. More specifically, examining the cervical flexion relaxation response as a marker for improved neuromuscular function and the alterations of muscle performance and proprioception by fatigue and altered neck postures.
What motivated you to do a Masters at UOIT?
I was motivated to do my Masters at UOIT by Dr. Murphy. I began as a teaching assistant with Dr. Murphy in the Kinesiology program and she introduced me to her research in
Neuroscience and Exercise Rehabilitation which immediately sparked my interest.
What have you enjoyed the most so far?
Through the two years of my masters I have really enjoyed being in the lab and doing research. I have been able to expand my knowledge in the field and have improved my analytical and troubleshooting skills. I have met a number of people who have influenced my life and have since become my good friends.
