Jessica Bossé
I am a Masters of Health Sciences in Kinesiology candidate entering my second year of study at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where I also completed my BHSc (hons). With technology advancements such as the computer and modern cellular phone, there is an increased demand on neck, hand and forearm muscles to perform tasks such as repetitive typing and texting while turning the head. My area of research uses a technique called SEPs (somatosensory evoked potentials) to investigate how repetitive muscular activity may play a role in altering cortical processing of various neural structures including the cerebellum. It is my goal to identify ergonomic issues and provide data which may be used in the future to develop policies to increase employee safety in the office workplace.
What motivated you to do a Masters at UOIT?
Through my work as an undergraduate research assistant as well as my 4th year research practicum, I was exposed to a world of research that I was previously unaware of. Having the opportunity to perform meaningful research attracted me to pursue my studies at the graduate level in the hopes that I could continue on with my research project under the supervision of Dr. Murphy.
What have you enjoyed the most so far?
Throughout my studies I have had the opportunity to perform meaningful research while gaining an extensive amount of knowledge. This has been the most satisfying aspect of my education thus far and applying this knowledge to my current research project will allow me to get the most of my experience at UOIT.
